Bet on the Padres in MLB Baseball Betting Action Today - Jon Garland

Fox Sports will be carrying the regionally televised MLB betting battle between the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon.

This is a potential playoff preview, as there is a decent chance that these two teams could be on a crash course for each other in the playoffs.

The Phillies are in a boatload of trouble right now after getting swept in four games by the Houston Astros, one of the worst teams in the bigs.

Still, the boys from the City of Brotherly Love are just a half game back of the San Francisco Giants for the NL Wild Card spot and three behind the Atlanta Braves for the top spot in the NL East going into play on Friday night.

The Padres were supposed to be on borrowed time all season long, but they are essentially heading towards a wire-to-wire campaign in the NL West. San Diego currently has the best record in the National League and has four games in the loss column on everyone in the league.

The Phillies are hoping that the recent form for Joe Blanton is going to hold up. He has only allowed more than two earned runs twice in his L/8 starts, which has dropped his ERA from 6.41 down to 5.32. Still, the former Oakland Athletics star is just 5-6 in 21 starts this year, and his core numbers aren't nearly what they were last year when he went 12-8.

His strikeout numbers are way down, as his K/9 is a questionable 6.48, while opposing batters are nearly batting .300 against him.

The Pads are going to count on Jon Garland to shut down the Phillies. Garland has been solid all season long, but particularly of late.

He is 4-1 in his L/5 starts and hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in a game since July 21st.

Garland is 13-8 this year, which is one of the best seasons of his career, and with six strikeouts, he will surpass his best strikeout total for a single year since 2006.

For his career, Jon Garland has really struggled with the Phils, going 0-4 with a 7.94 ERA. He was already lit up for six runs and ten hits in seven innings of work in a loss to Philly earlier this season.

MLB Insider Tip: The Phillies had won seven straight in this series before the Padres won the final two games of their four game MLB wagering series at Citizens Bank Park back in early June.

In all likelihood, the oddsmakers are going to be giving the Phillies too much respect in this game. San Diego hasn't been getting enough respect all season long, and this should be no exception. Take the Pads in MLB betting action on Saturday afternoon.
